GEPHI TECHNICAL SUPPORT PAGE
What to expect from Gephi?
A few homemade Gephi graphs:
They illustrate the diversity of what we can do with this software and can help you conceptualize what a “network” is.
Downloading and installing the software
The software (v. 0.9.1) can be freely downloaded here:
Note: as v. 0.9.1 is a new version, some plugins have not been updated. You can install v. 0.8.2 instead1.
Datasets
Different datasets to explore different features
Dataset 1 Set 1 EDGESSet 1 NODES 1.000 nodes / 14.116 edges (1-mode, directed) |
Dataset 2 Set 2 EDGESSet 2 NODES 110 nodes / 142 edges (2-mode, undirected) |
Dataset 3 Set 3 EDGESSet 3 NODES 3.275 nodes / 37.153 edges (1-mode, geographical) |
Depending on your browser, clicking on the datasets will download them. If it opens them in a webpage, “save page as” a TXT file, and then remove the .txt extension, keeping only the .csv.
Please note that these datasets are made available for demo/tutorial/training purposes. Contact me if you want to know more about them and/or use them in other contexts.
Online tutorial
Step-by-step tutorial (v. 0.8.2, but also understandable with v. 0.9.1), also available as a video and PDF:
Notes
- ▲ 0.8.2 – Important information for users of an Apple computer running a recent version of OS X (10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks or 10.10 Yosemite) : To be able to run Gephi, you’ll have to download and install a previous version of Java (Java 6 instead of your Java 7 or 8).
Depending on your configuration, you’ll have to edit the gephi.conf file of the application. You’ll find it in the “Package Contents” of the application (right-click on Gephi in your Applications menu and click on “Show Package Contents”). Here’s the way to the gephi.conf:
/Applications/Gephi.app/Contents/Resources/gephi/etc/gephi.conf
At the end of this file, add this line:
jdkhome=”/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home”
You’ll find more ressources about this issue on Gephi forums / Gephi Facebook group / other websites. After a few attempts, do not hesitate to email me. ↩
